Mixfeed.info's Interview With Flame

MIXFEED: What up Flame? How are things with you?
Flame: Im good man! Just happy to still be alive; so I can't complain.

MIXFEED: For those not familiar with you and/or your music, can you give us a quick introduction of yourself?
Flame: Well for anyone who doesnt know me by now, I was born in Cincinnati but have been raised in North Carolina my entire life. Been droppin' mixtape/street album one after another, and finally Im starting to get the notice I feel I deserve.

MIXFEED: How did you come up with the name “Flame”?
Flame: I came up with the name Flame when I was in high school. I felt like I had the potential to be a living fire on the microphone everytime I spit. I then added "The Young Vet" to the end since I feel that even though Im still young, my ability is that of a vet who has been in the game for years.

MIXFEED: How would you describe the type of music you make?
Flame: One thing about me is I DON'T follow trends. I basically make music on how I feel at the time. Moreso of a concept rapper than anything else. I'm not a huge club type of dude, so I don't make a lot of club music. I will make music for the ladies, but I try not to focus on those type of records. If the beat sounds good, I make sure I give the people some good lyrics to go along with it. Everyone right now is autotuning, and I don't knock any artist who uses it. But I try to stay in my own lane and keep doing what I've been doing from day one.

MIXFEED: Who or what inspired you to start making hip-hop music?
Flame: To be honest with you, I started writting music as just another hobby. I never planned on taking it serious. I would sit in my room and listen to the radio and write to the beats that came on the radio. Once I got to high school things got a little more serious and I noticed I actually had the potential to do something with it.

MIXFEED: I know you’ve been working hard on your upcoming mixtape Lyrically Advanced 2. Can you tell us a little about the mixtape and when to expect it out?
Flame: Right now it's shaping out to be a masterpiece. I don't have many collaborations on it; besides my artist JP & my dude Ricky Ruckus. But its basically me picking up where I left off with part 1. Still got one more artist Im looking at grabbing for the project to make it feel complete, but we'll see how that pans out. And I'm thinking about releasing it in October, since part 1 has been doing really good and I've got a video shoot coming up for my single off that joint, I didn't want to rush this one out. Look for DJ Whiteowl & DJ Bobby Black to be hosting it as well. Things could change, but right now that's who is showing me the most love on hosting it.

MIXFEED: When you are about to write/record a new song, what’s your process? Is there anything that helps you get in the zone?
Flame: Since I have my own studio; I usually roll me one, turn the beat on, and see which route I feel like going with the song. I absolutely love concepts, so I take my time with it and make sure nothing is rushed. All I need to get me in the zone is a blunt & a microphone. Magic will happen!

MIXFEED: Can you tell us a few artists in the game that you have been listening to lately?
Flame: To be totally honest with you, the rap game sucks right now. I've honestly started listening to more R&B than Hip Hop recently. But a few MC's I've been listening to recently are: Jadakiss, Method Man & Redman, Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, TI, and honestly that's about it. I listen to more 90 era albums than the new shit.

MIXFEED: Are there any artists in your area that you’ve been working with?
Flame: Only artists I have been working with recently are JP & Ricky Ruckus. They are both from North Carolina, and very gifted MC's on the mic. JP is actually my artist that I work with on a regular basis, he is from the Goldsboro, NC area. Ricky Ruckus is located in Winston Salem.

MIXFEED: If you could choose anyone to do a song with, who would it be?
Flame: My all time favorite rapper...Nas!!! That would be my dream collaboration, if I could pull that off there wouldnt be any other collaborations on my album. Ever since I heard Illmatic I was captured, that is the best album that was ever released (in my opinion).

MIXFEED: If someone has never listened to your music, in a few short words tell us why someone should listen and what they will be missing if they don't.
Flame: Great music! I don't sound like anyone else, you won't get any autotune shit, you just get good beats with a perfect flow. Any type of song you are looking for, all you have to do is put my CD and it is guaranteed to be there. Just give it a chance, and Im positive you WON'T be dissapointed!

MIXFEED: Thanks for doing the interview with Mixfeed. Is there anything else you’d like to add before we conclude?
Flame: First & foremost I want to thank God for allowing me the opportunity to see another day. Also, I will be shooting a video for my single "Nothing I Won't Do/Know By Now" the end of the year and it will be premiering on BET early next year, so be looking for that!! Special shout out to: Mixfeed, my son Tyler (Daddy loves you), my mother Gaynelle, Trey, my girl Shelly, my producer Sean Ross (preciate them beats my dude, you a PROBLEM!), and everybody out there whose been supporting me.
